This was my first drawing in Rome, of St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, viewed from one of the many hills in Rome, the Gianicolo (Janiculum Hill). The climb was long and the day was warm, but the vista of this impressive dome designed by Michelangelo, was reward enough for the effort.
Sitting on a bench atop this hill, the surrounding pine trees and foliage framed the dome perfectly.
